The LifeSize HD video conferencing equipment is unique due to a patented video compression algorithm technology based upon the H.264 standard. This enables crystal clear HD quality at half the band width requirement & half the cost of the competitive offerings from Tandberg, Polycom, Cisco, Sony, Codian, et al. The LifeSize solution is also compatible with the H.263, and H.269 standards.

LifeSize's video compression algorithms allow for the best possible picture from available band width by delivering nearly ten times the quality of existing videoconferencing systems (limited to 352 x 288 pixels), users will experience a completely new paradigm in face-to-face video communications. High definition (1280 x 720 pixels at 30 frames per second) video resolution will make participants appear true-to-size. And with advanced processing capabilities, LifeSize Room provides better video at any bandwidth including high definition resolution at 1Mbps, DVD quality at 512Kbps and Cable TV quality at 384Kbps.
The competitive offerings claim HD capability at 1.0 MB, but in reality their solutions are typically only producing 8 frames per second at this band width, which does not meet the requirement of 30 frames per second required for true HD. This leads to pixel loss & sketchy incomplete transmission of movement. Band widths of 2.0 MB and up will produce HD transmissions in these products.
TopDesktop Control
With LifeSize's Control Software, it is possible to schedule video conference meetings from your desktop computer using a web browser. The Control software is able to communicate with and link into other traditional standards based video conferencing equipment.
Multimedia Sharing is another LifeSize advantage. Without any additional equipment, the LifeSize HD video conference solution can hook up with a VGA input cord that is standards based for dual streaming (H.239) to any media source desired (e.g. Power Point, spreadsheets, DVD video clips, and white board communications.
LifeSize Control also allows for tracking the usage of HD video conference units to enable inter-departmental cost alignment. Customizable reports can be exported in a variety of file formats Excel, PDF, CSV, or HTML and can be integrated with company accounting systems.
Encryption ensures confidentiality of all conference subject matter, conversations (audio), and the video images of the audiences.

The traditional video conference systems rely on a signal sent to the far end over one active microphone from the sending side. By contrast, LifeSize has introduced the "Omni-directional" architecture with 16 microphones in a circular array that gives an overall boost to the signal to noise ratio of almost 12dB. A single LifeSize video conference phone can cover about 2x the linear distance, which means almost 4x the square footage of coverage, as compared to the competitive phone offerings.
